So it’s been a CRAZY few weeks involving Ben Affleck and The Batman film. First we kept having media people asking Ben Affleck NON STOP about if he is still going to direct and act in the film. He eventually grew tired of such questions and said that he is still going to direct “The Batman” film and kind of made it clear to stop bugging him about it. I personally took it as good news. He’s gonna do it, we can ignore those rumors about the script being a complete nightmare, that’s false and we can all look forward to a 2017 start of production. Boy was I wrong . . .
Two weeks after that he decided to step down from directing the film and focus on just acting in it and collaborating with whoever they find to be a director. These were his exact words:
“There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions,” Affleck said in a statement. “Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require. Together with the studio, I have decided to find a partner in a director who will collaborate with me on this massive film. I am still in this, and we are making it, but we are currently looking for a director. I remain extremely committed to this project, and look forward to bringing this to life for fans around the world.”
Hmmmmm. Ok . . . well maybe this means he doesn’t have a million things to worry about with directing, acting, writing, producing etc. NOW he can get that burden of directing off his back and this movie can finally get its wheels turning and start production soon. Being a huge Batman fan and a big fan of Ben Affleck’s portrayal of the character I’m trying to be optimistic.
A week or so ago news dropped saying that The Batman script was NOT going to be getting a page 1 rewrite. Sources said that a script was handed in this month and everyone, including Ben Affleck was VERY pleased with it. Ok, thats good news. FINALLY, any more good news?
YES, just the other day, Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, Dawn if the Planet of the Apes) was brought on board to direct “The Batman”. SUCH exciting news. WOOHOO! Now we have a director, things are squared away and we can put the last months worth of drama behind us. Right? No, wrong again . . .
Just today news dropped that Ben Affleck is reportedly wanting out of “The Batman” film ENTIRELY! Sources say that if he does indeed want out and IF he does do this film then it’ll be the last time we see him dawning the cape and cowl. The information comes from John Campea who hosts Collider Movie Talk. He has reportedly talked with three individuals connected to the situation at Warner Bros. This is what he had to say
“Take this for what it’s worth. This is from a guy who has been burned twice by scoops, so please take this with a massive, massive grain of salt. Over the past four days, I’ve talked to three separate people, who are connected in some way, to what is going on over at Warner Bros. What all three have told me, nothing about whether the script was thrown out or whether they liked the script, nothing about the direction that Matt Reeves is taking it in, nothing about that. What has come out of the conversation with all three was this. They’re telling me that, Ben Affleck, make no mistake, he does want out. He doesn’t want to be Batman anymore. I have been told that Affleck is talking with Warner Bros. in an attempt to get out of being Batman. If they do not let him out of being Batman, that the stand alone Batman film that ultimately happens, will be the last time we see Affleck as Batman, because he apparently wants out.”
WTF?! He wants out completely now? Like what in the actual F*** is going on over at Warner Bros.? As a HUGE DC Comics fan I am SO irritated by what is happening with the DCEU. I just want good films made with talented people and bring my childhood, and adulthood comic dreams come to life on the screen. Hopefully Warner Bros. will come out with some news sometime soon denying these rumors and hopefully Ben Affleck himself will come out denying such reports. In a dream world I’d hope he’d come out saying
“These rumors are completely false. I love dawning the cape and cowl and working with people like Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot etc. Working with Warner Bros. is so amazing. Being in this DCEU is such a great opportunity for me and I can’t wait to play this character over the next several years”. A fanboy can dream right?
Stay tuned for more news involving “The Batman”
